There’s plenty to get stuck into this week.

First up, big changes are coming to Kingshurst, with the next stage of a £23.9m transformation set to bring new health services, shops, community spaces and more to the village centre.

Then we’re looking ahead to what could be one of Solihull’s best weekends of the autumn. The Food & Harvest Festival returns next Friday, bringing three days of street food, local produce, live music, a new Farmers’ Market, scarecrows and on Sunday, free line dancing and a full-on country takeover of Mell Square. 🌾🤠

A major transformation of Kingshurst Village Centre is moving into its next phase, with construction expected to begin before the end of 2026.

At the heart of the £23.9 million development will be a new Community, Health and Retail hub, bringing a host of everyday services together under one roof. Plans include GP and public health services, a dentist, pharmacy, opticians, library, community spaces, café and Co-op store.

The next phase will also deliver six new homes, a new vicarage, a new main road, parking and wider improvements to the village centre.

It's the latest part of a much bigger regeneration of Kingshurst, which has already seen 25 new social-rented homes completed and improvements made to Kingshurst Park.

Construction is expected to get underway later this year, with 2027 set to be a big year for the village centre as the new development starts taking shape.

Something rather special is coming to Tudor Grange Park next month.

Throughout the summer, people from communities across Solihull have been creating kites, dancing and sharing stories exploring belonging, identity, hope and the experiences that connect us.

On Saturday 3 October, those projects come together for Under the Same Sky, a completely free afternoon featuring a colourful community kite procession followed by a spectacular aerial performance beneath a seven-metre-high circular rig.

Six performers from Autin Dance Theatre will combine aerial dance, movement, music and flying props in Up in the Sky. The performance is completely non-verbal, making it accessible to audiences across different languages and generations.

Families can simply turn up, watch the procession, meet local organisations and enjoy the performance.

Whether you're thinking about your own future or helping a parent or loved one, a free Later Life drop-in event is coming to Chelmsley Wood next month.

Head to The Loft, above ASDA in Chelmsley Wood, on Friday 9 October from 12–5pm, where local organisations will be on hand to offer friendly, practical advice.

Visitors can get help with finances and future planning, health and vaccinations, housing and care options, staying independent at home, community activities and support for carers.

Organisations attending include teams from the NHS alongside Age UK Solihull, Carers Trust Solihull and other local services.

There's no need to book and it's completely free — simply drop in.

There's a second chance to access the same kind of support in Solihull town centre on Monday 12 October.

The free Later Life event takes place at The Core Library from 12:30–3:30pm, with experts available to answer questions about everything from money and health to caring for someone, housing choices and ways to stay independent for longer.

You don't necessarily have to be approaching later life yourself either — it could be really useful if you're beginning to think about how best to support an older parent, relative or neighbour.

Again, there's no booking required.

A couple of Solihull dining deals worth knowing about this week — whether you're planning a takeaway night or fancy eating out without quite the usual bill.

If you've been meaning to try Hobs Meadow, there’s a good reason to visit before September is out.

Their 2-for-1 Happy Hour runs on Fridays from 12–6pm and Saturdays from 3–5pm, making it a particularly good shout for an early weekend drink and bite to eat.

🌾 Solihull Food & Harvest Festival — Friday 25–Sunday 27 September — FREE
Solihull town centre is getting a big autumn makeover next weekend with three days of food, live music, local produce and family fun. Friday brings 17 local choirs for Harvest Harmony, while Saturday adds street food, outdoor bars and a brand-new Farmers’ Market in Mell Square, featuring artisan bread, cheese, pasta, wine and more. There’s also a Scarecrow Trail running throughout the weekend, with a £100 Touchwood voucher up for grabs.

🤠 Barn Dance Festival at Mell Square — Sunday 27 September — FREE
Dust off the cowboy boots because Mell Square is going full country next Sunday. The final day of Solihull’s Food & Harvest Festival kicks off with free line-dancing tuition from 11am, followed by tribute performances celebrating Shania Twain, The Wurzels and Dolly Parton. There’ll also be a bucking bronco for anyone brave enough to have a go, plus farmyard-themed crafts for children.

🏍️ Ride a classic motorcycle from the museum collection — Saturday 26 September — £
This might be one of the most unusual experiences happening around Solihull this month. The National Motorcycle Museum in Bickenhill is giving members of its Friends scheme the chance to actually ride one of the historic motorcycles usually found inside the museum. The escorted day tour heads out on a scenic route with a lunch stop along the way, with machines including classic BSA models available to ride. Tours start from £250 depending on the bike, and you'll need to be a Friends of the Museum member to take part.

🤘 Last chance to see Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero — Until Sunday 27 September — FREE
If you haven’t made it yet, there’s only one week left to see Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s hugely popular celebration of Ozzy Osbourne. The exhibition follows his journey from Aston to global rock stardom, with Grammy Awards, platinum and gold discs, photography, video and memorabilia on display. You can even see the gothic throne used during Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s final Villa Park concert. It’s completely free and no booking is required.

🎨 Painting & PCOS/PMOS evening at Miss Macaroon — Wednesday 30 September — £10
Something a little different is coming to Miss Macaroon at Resorts World later this month, combining creativity, conversation and women's health in one relaxed evening. Hosted with Cysters, the event includes a guided painting session, a GP Q&A about PCOS and PMOS, technology insights, a drink and the chance to meet others and share experiences. You don't need any painting experience, and all ticket proceeds support Cysters' grassroots work. 6:30–8:30pm.

🎨 An Accomplished Woman at Baddesley Clinton — Until Friday 13 November — £
Step inside Baddesley Clinton and discover the creative life of Georgiana, Lady Chatterton, marking 150 years since her death. The exhibition explores a woman who was an author, artist, musician and traveller, bringing her story to life through artwork, poetry, sound and an original harp composition. There’s also a special collection of work created by visitors inspired by her life. The exhibition itself is free, although normal admission to Baddesley Clinton applies.

A huge week ahead for local sport, with Solihull Moors back at Damson Park, Silhillians beginning their new league campaign and Warwickshire heading into the final round of the County Championship with the title in their hands.

After a difficult start to the National League season, Solihull Moors finally have their first league victory on the board.

Scott High grabbed the decisive goal in a 1–0 win over Barrow at Damson Park, with the Moors digging deep late on to secure both the three points and a clean sheet.

There's another chance to get behind them at home next Saturday, 26 September, when Boreham Wood visit Damson Park for a 3pm kick-off.

And there's a good reason to make it your Saturday afternoon plan: for this fixture, adult and 65+ tickets have been reduced to £15.

Rugby is back at Silhillians next weekend as the First XV begin their Regional 2 Midlands West campaign.

The Sils start the new season on home soil against Luctonians II on Saturday 26 September, kicking off a campaign that will also see them face the likes of Kenilworth, Worcester, Malvern, Hereford and Stow-on-the-Wold.

Based at Silhillians Sports Club on Warwick Road, the club has grown far beyond its Old Boys origins and now runs men's, women's, junior and mini rugby, alongside touch and walking rugby.

So if you've never watched your local rugby club before, next weekend could be a good time to start.

It could be a very special week at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire head into the final round of the County Championship sitting top of Division One, holding an 11-point advantage over Somerset, after an extraordinary run of late-season form.

The Bears recently demolished Glamorgan by an innings and 257 runs, bowling them out for just 69 and 65, before following it up with an eight-wicket victory over Essex inside two days.

That means it all comes down to their final four-day match against Leicestershire at Edgbaston from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 September.

Warwickshire last lifted the County Championship in 2021, so this could be a brilliant week to head down to Edgbaston and watch the title race unfold in person.

The nights might be drawing in, but Birmingham Airport has plenty of excuses to get something in the diary, including a brand-new route to one of Europe's best Christmas cities.

Christmas markets, colourful Nyhavn, cosy cafés and Tivoli Gardens covered in festive lights… Copenhagen is about to become much easier to reach from Solihull.

Fancy squeezing out a little more sunshine before winter?
