There’s still plenty of summer left to squeeze in and with the August Bank Holiday on Monday 31 August, now feels like a very good time to start making some plans.

First though, a huge good luck to everyone receiving their GCSE results across Solihull today. Whether the envelope contains exactly what you hoped for or your plans need a little rethink, congratulations on getting through it.

And if you’re wondering what comes next, there’s local help available today too — more on that below.

Elsewhere this morning, there’s a new addition at Solihull Station, a lovely local fundraising story, places to eat worth having on your radar and a bumper selection of things to do between now and Bank Holiday Monday.

Today is GCSE Results Day, with thousands of young people finding out the results of all that hard work.

If things haven’t quite gone to plan or you simply haven’t decided what to do next, Solihull College & University Centre is running a School Leaver Advice Day at its Woodlands Campus today from 10am–6pm and again tomorrow from 10am–2pm.

Tutors and student services staff will be there to talk through courses, September options and next steps, and there’s no need to book.

👉 Definitely one to send to any Year 11 families who might need it today.

Regular train users might notice a new addition on their next journey.

A new interactive Wayfinding Unit has been installed at the entrance to Solihull Station, giving residents and visitors access to maps, local events, restaurants, attractions, shopping, transport information, weather and council services.

The touchscreen is the first of its kind in Solihull and only the second in the country.

It’s a small addition, but anything that makes it easier for visitors arriving by train to discover more of Solihull and hopefully spend with local businesses while they’re here, gets our vote.

A little personal one from me this week…

Next April, I’ll be taking on the 2027 TCS London Marathon, raising money for Age UK Solihull and the brilliant work they do supporting older people across our borough.

It’s a cause that means a lot to me personally. I grew up without ever having the chance to know my maternal grandparents, while my paternal grandparents passed away when I was still young. Because of that, I’ve always felt the importance of making sure older people feel supported, valued and connected to their community.

That’s exactly what Age UK Solihull works to do every day, supporting local older people and helping make sure nobody feels forgotten or alone.

Training starts properly now, and over the coming months I’ll be sharing the journey, the good runs, the difficult ones and a few fundraising events along the way!

If you’re able to support me, even a small donation would genuinely mean a huge amount. Every pound helps Age UK Solihull continue being there for older people right here in our community.

On the topic of fundraising, a lovely local result to cheer about.

The Rotary Club of Solihull's charity golf tournament has raised £1,400 for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, helping support the organisation's lifesaving pre-hospital emergency care across the region.

The tournament was held at Copt Heath Golf Club and brought together professional and amateur golfers for the cause.

A brilliant example of a local club, a local event and a very important regional charity all coming together.

The school holidays can be brilliant but they can also be expensive.

Solihull Council's Here2Help summer programme is still running, bringing together free and low-cost activities, Family Hub sessions, Holiday Activities and Food provision and practical support for families who may be struggling with food, uniforms, money or other essentials.

There are activities taking place across Best Start Family Hubs in Smith's Wood, Kingshurst, Elmdon and Chelmsley Wood throughout August.

Fancy giving rugby a go? Camp Hill RFC Women & Girls are throwing open the doors this Sunday for a special Summer Rugby Takeover, encouraging more women and girls of all ages to discover the sport.

Camp Hill’s women’s team was founded more than 30 years ago, and the club has spent the last 18 months growing its girls’ section too, with teams from U12s through to U18s and ambitions to get even more youngsters involved.

The takeover takes place on Sunday 23 August from 1pm at Camp Hill RFC, B90 2EF, with fun and games for minis and juniors, non-contact touch rugby, the chance for over-18s to try senior training, a kicking competition, snacks and an opportunity to meet the teams.

You don’t need to be an experienced rugby player — the whole idea is to come along and give it a try, with both contact and non-contact versions of the game available.

If you’ve got little ones and fancy making a meal out feel like a bit more of an occasion, this is worth knowing about.

Beleza Rodizio at Touchwood brings the Brazilian steakhouse experience to Solihull, with passadores bringing freshly flame-grilled meats directly to your table — and you simply keep going until you’ve had enough.

The particularly family-friendly bit? Children under four eat the Full Rodizio completely FREE. Kids aged 5–8 are £12, while 9–12-year-olds are £17.95.

There’s an unlimited salad bar and Brazilian hot sides alongside the meat too, so it could be a fun one for a family meal over the holidays.

👉 One to remember if you’re eating out with younger children this Bank Holiday.

For something a little more brunch-shaped, Bloom on Hobs Moat Road is another Solihull independent well worth having on your radar.

Open every day from 9am–4pm, Bloom specialises in all-day brunch with everything from full breakfasts and avocado toast to Turkish eggs, chicken waffles, French toast and plenty of coffee.

It’s another handy option for families too. Their dedicated Little Ones menu for under-10s starts from £5, with choices including chips, beans & cheese; chicken goujons & chips; or chicken sausage, sourdough & beans.

It’s walk-ins only, so you don’t need to plan too far ahead — although it can get busy at popular times.

Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Trail — Baddesley Clinton
Calling all Pokémon fans! Head to Baddesley Clinton for a special outdoor Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Trail, where families can explore the gardens, hunt down Mega Evolution Pokémon, discover their powers and complete challenges along the way. It runs daily until Monday 31 August, 9am–5pm, and the trail itself is free with normal admission, plus it’s buggy and wheelchair friendly.

DIY Dress Workshop — Desco Lounge, Shirley
Got a budding fashion designer at home? Mashquin Creative Mornings is bringing a hands-on DIY Dress workshop to Desco Lounge on Wednesday 26 August at 10.30am. Children aged 8+ will learn to hand-sew their own mini dress before customising it with their own stitching, colours and designs — no sewing machine needed. Tickets are £25 per child, with a coffee for the grown-ups included too.

King Arthur and The Holy Fail — Packwood House
Pack a picnic and settle in on the lawn at Packwood for an evening of knights, quests and medieval mayhem as The Three Inch Fools perform their brilliantly silly take on the King Arthur legend. The outdoor performance takes place on Friday 28 August from 7pm–9pm, with gates opening at 6pm. Under-5s go free, under-18s are £13.16 and adult tickets are £23.88.

Bank Holiday Fun Day — The Limes, Earlswood
A proper family Bank Holiday afternoon at The Limes, with live music, a DJ and games, inflatables, a children’s mascot, BBQ, ice cream and stalls. It all takes place on Monday 31 August from 1pm–6pm. Tickets are £5 adults, £3 children over three or £12 for a family of four, with unlimited inflatable wristbands available for an additional £5.

Gravity Show 2026 — NEC Birmingham
One for the petrolheads! The huge Gravity Show returns to the NEC over Bank Holiday weekend, bringing together supercars, custom builds, classics, drift cars and race cars alongside live entertainment, interactive displays and some of the biggest names in automotive culture. It runs Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, 10am–5pm, with tickets starting from £24.

⚽ Solihull Moors — searching for that first win
It’s been a difficult opening couple of weeks for the Moors. After league defeats to Harrogate Town and Boston United, Tuesday night brought a 3–1 defeat to Middlesbrough U21s in the National League Cup at Damson Park.

There’s another chance to get the season up and running this weekend though, with Southend United visiting Damson Park on Saturday 22 August at 12.30pm.

⚽ Winning starts for Solihull Moors Women & Knowle Women
Better news from our local women’s football teams, with both beginning the new league season with 3–1 victories.

Solihull Moors Women beat Stourbridge Women 3–1 at Studley Sports Centre, while Knowle Women also won 3–1, seeing off Coventry Sphinx at the Robins Nest.

Both are back on the road this Sunday: the Moors travel to Coundon Court Ladies, while Knowle head to Shrewsbury Town Women, with both games kicking off at 2pm.

🏒 Solihull Barons are almost back on the ice!
The countdown to the new ice hockey season is on, with the Solihull Barons preparing for a Bank Holiday weekend pre-season double-header against the Invicta Dynamos.

The Barons head away on Saturday 29 August before bringing the action back to Planet Ice Solihull on Sunday 30 August at 5.30pm for the return fixture.

If you’ve never watched ice hockey live before, it’s fast, loud and a brilliant alternative family sporting afternoon.
