Earth Day in Solihull: simple ways to get involved
It was Earth Day yesterday and it’s a good reminder of something Solihull does really well: green space, community, and people who care about where they live.
Across the borough, there are lots of simple ways to get involved, from litter picking to tree planting and it’s easier than you might think.
Here are a few local ideas 👇
🧹 Join a local litter picking group
There are lots of community-led groups helping keep Solihull’s streets and green spaces looking their best.
Groups like Clean & Green Kingshurst, Olton & Hobs Moat Litter Pickers, and Tidbury Green Litter Pickers are a great example of how small actions add up.

🌱 Support local tree planting
Projects like Planting Our Future are helping increase tree cover across Solihull, with a goal of 250,000 trees by 2030. There are opportunities for residents, schools and local groups to get involved — whether that’s planting, supporting, or simply learning more.
This week’s local partner - Ananda Pearl Yoga & Wellness

A local sanctuary in Solihull for anyone needing a moment to slow down…
This week’s featured local partner is Ananda Pearl Yoga & Wellness, a calming space created by Dr Gurpreet Solanki for people who need a chance to pause, breathe and reconnect.
Gurpreet’s journey into wellness began during a deeply challenging period of grief, overwhelm and perimenopause, when Yin Yoga became a way to slow down, soften, and come back to herself. That experience now shapes everything she offers, with a real focus on deep rest, calm, and gentle restoration.
At Ananda Pearl, you’ll find:
Weekly Yin Yoga classes (Wednesday evenings)
Mini retreats and day retreats
Sessions that incorporate Yoga Nidra, sound healing, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere
It’s one of those places that feels less like a class and more like a proper reset, especially if life’s been feeling a bit full-on lately.
👉 If you’ve been craving a little more calm, this is a lovely local one to explore and book onto a class or retreat: https://www.anandapearlwellness.co.uk/
✨ Community Spotlight ✨

Just Start Run Club
If you’ve been thinking about getting into running but didn’t quite know where to begin, this local group is about as welcoming as it gets. Just Start is all about exactly that, no pressure, no expectations, just turning up and giving it a go.
It’s beginner-friendly, social, and a great way to build confidence, meet new people and get moving without overthinking it! Whether you’re aiming for your first 5k or just want an easy way to get out the house, this is a really positive local community to be part of.

Kevin from Olton
A message came in this week from Kevin in Olton, and it felt especially relevant with Earth Day… who shared how much he enjoys the open spaces and wildlife across Solihull. From quiet walks to spotting wildlife, it’s a reminder that a lot of what makes the area special is already right on our doorstep. It’s easy to overlook day-to-day, but when the weather’s like this, places across Olton and wider Solihull really come into their own.
⚽ Wake Green AFC Juniors – Fundraiser Update
A quick update on the Wake Green AFC Juniors fundraiser and a big thank you to everyone who’s already got involved. We’re now halfway through the week and have reached 35 referrals, which is an incredible start 👏
As a reminder, for every referral to Solihull Spotlight, 50p is being donated and all donations are going towards next season’s kits and essential equipment
It’s a simple way to support a great local club, and it all adds up quickly when the community gets behind it.
Share via the link below and we’ll continue donating 50p per referral until this Sunday.
