Local News

Young carers in Solihull celebrated for their achievements

A lovely local story this week: the Solihull Observer is reporting on young carers being given the chance to take a break, celebrate their achievements and enjoy some well-deserved recognition. The article highlights young carers at Ninestiles School, Acocks Green, with the event giving them a moment to step away from day-to-day responsibilities and be acknowledged for everything they do.

It’s one of those stories that feels especially worth sharing, because so much of what young carers do happens quietly, behind the scenes, and often without much fuss. Their contribution to family life can be huge, and it’s nice to see that being acknowledged locally.

If this story strikes a chord, Carers Trust Solihull is the local organisation supporting unpaid carers across the borough, including young carers, young adult carers, adult carers and parent carers. They offer access to support, events, activities and newsletters, and both carers and professionals can register or refer through their website.

Community Spotlight

Kingshurst Park is worth rediscovering

If you haven’t been over to Kingshurst Park recently, it looks like one to put back on your radar.

The park got a major upgrade at the end of last year, with a new inclusive play area, resurfaced paths, better access, new benches and picnic tables, cycle stands, planting, and even creative additions like a graffiti wall and communication play panel. Solihull Council says the improvements were shaped by local feedback, and the overall aim was to create a more welcoming, inclusive and modern green space for the community.

Visit Knowle is building up to a big year

Knowle is celebrating a big milestone in 2026, with its 750 year anniversary, and Visit Knowle is helping build momentum toward a major High Street celebration on Sunday 21 June 2026.

The plans are community-centred, with food, entertainment, family-friendly activities and history groups all part of the mix. Visit Knowle is also encouraging local businesses, schools, residents and community groups to get involved with events, ideas and activities under the “750” umbrella.

It’s one of those that will keep growing over the next couple of months, so definitely one to keep an eye on.

Solihull Food & Drink

Solihull Dining Club is coming to Tudor Grange Park

One for the diary: Digbeth Dining Club is bringing its Solihull Dining Club back to Tudor Grange Park on Saturday 25 April, 12pm–6pm.

It’s set to bring together independent street food traders, bars and live music in the park, with tickets currently listed at £3 for adults and £1.50 for children. If you’re after an easy local food plan that feels a bit more like an occasion, this looks like a good one.

Dickens Heath Book and Pudding Club

The Dickens Heath Book and Pudding Club is running at Dickens Heath Village Green, on the 13th May, with tickets from £13. The idea is simple: meet new people, enjoy pudding, and chat about books in a relaxed setting. You don’t even need to have read the book for the first event, which makes it feel much more welcoming than your average book club.

Solihull Moors bounce back in style

A much better few days for Solihull Moors, who responded to their 1–0 defeat away at Tamworth on 3 April with a 4–1 home win over Boreham Wood on 6 April. Moors’ official report described it as a “statement win”, with Darius Lipsiuc scoring twice.

The Moors’ next match is away at Southend United on Saturday 11 April at 3pm, followed by another away game at Woking on Tuesday 14 April at 7.45pm.
